Art Journal: Joyful Bold Botanicals
I have this one sketchbook journal that I go to when I want to just feel free to play with paint. It’s an Arteza linen-bound watrecolour book, 8.3x11.7 inches large with 230gsm thick pages that take water well, so I can splash all I like, but I don’t have the pressure of needing to be ‘perfect’ with what I create. I don’t plan or draw anything beforehand, just pick the brush up, decide on a colour and have fun.
I was hugely surprised by the results. I picked colours that I didn’t normally use, and everything was bolder than usual, and, dare I say it … more joyful? The strokes are simpler, looser and have a nice feel. I began to wonder who the person was, painting such happy pictures!
I am constantly amazed by the way in which art teaches me someting new about myself, time after time. It’s a reflection of changes in my life that I’m not even aware of until the evidence appears on the page as music in colour, magical expressions of the unconscious, letting me know that there are buried gems of happiness sprinkled in the depths. I’m constantly learning more about myself and the world around me … which is exactly why I so love what I do ...
Wishing you a day filled with joyous moments.
