Joyful Watercolour: Whales, Mice and Mushrooms
A quick glimpse into what I’ve been doing in the sketchbooks lately …playing around with story snippets when the mood strikes and I need to paint in a slightly more detailed manner. Here’s a sperm whale and below are some mice sitting on mushrooms … there are stories in these illustrations, though I’m not quite sure of what they are, so you’re welcome to weave your own …
While painting the sperm whale above I remembered having drawn a whale before so went in search of it and dug it out! This was done in coloured pencil a long time ago …
Looking at both the whales now, I can see how I’ve changed … there’s a more playful looseness in the recent one that I love, though I do still like the more restrained, sweet pencil drawing as well.
Another change in work life is the opening up of the new website store where we’re selling eco-friendly art prints and greeting cards, and it’s got me delving into my past treasure art troves to dig out tons of my older illustrations for those, quite a lovely trip down art memory lane! To have a look at them as prints and cards, please do click HERE.
Meanwhile, the mice mushrooms are already up at the shop so if you’d like to get one for yourself or for an imaginative child who can create his or her own magical story around the illustrations, just click on any of the images below to be taken straight to it at the shop. And if you do conjure up a tale or two, please do share them with me, @marianablackdesigns on Instagram or facebook, as I’d love to read them!
